5th Grade Science
In Conway School District we teach an integrated science curriculum that consists of Physical, Earth/Space, and Life Science. We use the NGSS (New Generation Science Standards) that include 3 strands: Core Ideas / Science & Engineering Practices / Cross Cutting Concepts
The NGSS were developed by states to improve science education in America. The goal for developing the NGSS was to create a set of research-based, K–12 science standards for the 21st Century. Click here to learn more about these standards - www.nextgenscience.org
Science Units and Topics
We primarily use an online, open-and-go curriculum called Mystery Science that inspire kids to love science! It challenges them to see, think, and wonder about the world around them.
Science textbooks will not be issued this year. However, I do have older textbooks that are available for checkout from my class on a first come, first serve basis.
Grades will come from daily classwork, science labs, quizzes, tests, and projects. The dates for these assessments are announced one week in advance and always feature a study guide.
Daily assignments and goals are written on the board for your children to copy into their assignment planner. Student grades will be posted on eSchool every two weeks but usually the students will get their work handed back to them at least once a week..
