5th Grade Science
Conway School District we teach an integrated science curriculum that consists of Physical, Earth/Space, and Life Science. We use the NGSS (New Generation Science Standards) that include 3 strands: Core Ideas / Science & Engineering Practices / Cross Cutting Concepts
The NGSS were developed by states to improve science education in America. The goal for developing the NGSS was to create a set of research-based, K–12 science standards for the 21st Century. Click here to learn more about these standards - www.nextgenscience.org
Science Units and Topics
We primarily use an online, open-and-go curriculum called Mystery Science that inspire kids to love science! Due to the online nature of our curriculum, Science textbooks will not be issued this year. However, I do have older textbooks that are available for checkout from my class on a first come, first serve basis.
Grades will come from daily classwork, science labs, quizzes, tests, and projects. Daily work will be written on the board each day for your children to copy into their assignment planner. The dates for major assessments such as quizzes and tests are announced approximately one week prior to the day they are given and usually feature a study guide.
Grades will be posted to HAC (Home Access Center) every two weeks or sometimes even sooner. You can find a link to HAC under the “Parents and Students”section of the Conway Public Schools website (www.conwayschools.org). You will use your registration information to log in and check your child's’ grade.
